On 9th November 1732, the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer was born. This Congregation came to be popularly known as the Redemptorists. St. Alphonsus Liguori, a priest from Naples, Italy along with his companions, were inspired by God and anointed with the Holy Spirit, to dedicate their lives to follow Jesus the Redeemer in preaching the Good News to the poor and most abandoned through this missionary Congregation. Besides being the founder of the Redemptorists, Alphonsus came to be known as a friend of the poor, a zealous pastor of souls in the confessional, a doctor of moral theology and an author of more than 100 pastoral book for the spiritual nourishment of the people.

In 1787, Alphonsus went to his heavenly reward at the age of 91. In that same year, a young man name Clement Hofbauer joined the Redemptorists. He is often called "the second founder" of the Redemptorists because his zeal led him to establish foundations for our mission beyond Italy across the Alps. These foundations gave birth to other foundations in the world including the Irish Province, which is the Mother Province of the Bangalore Province of Redemptorists, the Province of Liguori and the Vice-Province of Majella in India.

The Bangalore Province of Redemptorists extends from Ambala in the North of India up to Kanyakumari in the South of India. We are involved in preaching popular missions and retreats, pastoral counselling to families in distress, parish ministry, youth ministry, and social or educational outreach to the poor. The Redemptorist Media Center is the media ministry wing of the Bangalore Province of Redemptorists.
